Sorrento is the most beautiful town & I can’t recommend it enough.

Italy is always a treat but this place captured my heart for a number of different reasons.

If you’re craving a little adventure, accompanied by some mouth watering food and breathtaking views, make Sorrento your next holiday.

Getting there 

We booked an all inclusive holiday with TUI so we got our flights, hotel and transfers all chucked in for one price.

Because we went out of season, we got a fab deal and although the sun wasn’t shining all the time, it was a wonderful holiday.

Sant’Agnello 

We stayed in the Parco del Sole hotel in Sant’Agnello which was absolutely beautiful.

The food was gorgeous and the rooms were immaculate – I’d highly recommend it.

The hotel’s location was perfect too. It was close to the town of Sant’Agnello and only about 10 minutes walk from the station.

Sant’Agnello is a sweet little town and there’s a beautiful church just around the corner which is definitely worth a visit.

La Favorita Restaurant 

When you visit Sorrento town, be sure to head for La Favorita on the main street.

Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior – this restaurant is truly something special inside.

Founded in 1868, this is where cannelloni was invented and they still use the traditional recipe.

Feast on some delicious Italian cuisine before heading back out to see the rest of the town.

Try some limoncello and gelato from local vendors, and take a wander around the beautiful Cloisters – it’s not surprising to see why so many people choose this as their wedding venue.

Capri & Anacapri

We originally decided to go to Sorrento because we watched It Started in Naples with Sophia Loren and Clark Gable – I felt like it was where I needed to be!

The movie was actually filmed on the island of Capri and a boat trip to this place is not to be missed.

Capri is a hot spot for celebrities with its stunning scenery and designer shops to be found in small, winding alleys.

Anacapri is at the top part of the island – you can take a chair lift to reach it.

Believe me when I tell you that getting a chair lift up and back was one of the funniest experiences of my life.

The chair comes along so quickly that you have no choice but to be swept up by it. Word of warning – don’t wear flip flops, sunglasses or hats on this thing; you travel above people’s gardens so you have no hope of getting them back if they fall off.

One lady was wandering around at the top with no shoes on because they’d fallen off as soon as she’d got on!

The Blue Grotto is high on any Capri visitor’s list but you’ll have to be brave to go in there – rising waters mean it’s getting more difficult to fit through the entrance.

There’s also art, architecture and plenty of shopping to be done here. It can get expensive so be prepared to take some extra spending money.

Pompeii

Pompeii has been on my bucket list for years and it was somewhere I was really keen to see.

Excursions here can be expensive but from Sant’Agnello, you can get the Circumvesuviana train for under 10 Euro for 2 people.

Entrance is free on the first Sunday of the month so we didn’t have to worry about paying anything at the gate.

We also decided to use a digital guide for around 8 Euro to get around Pompeii rather than going for a tour guide.

Pompeii is actually quite a big place and we weren’t keen to go on a full tour for 3 hours so we made our way around on our own which was fab.

We were actually glad we chose this option as people we’d met on the train paid twice as much for a tour guide, only to get separated from their group after the first stop.

It does get very busy so make sure you stick to your group very closely.

Visiting Pompeii is a pretty surreal experience – I can’t believe it wasn’t excavated until the 1800’s!

It’s something I’d definitely recommend, it’s amazing to see a whole town left as it would have been.

Take plenty of water and comfy walking shoes for this one.

Amalfi Coast Tour – Positano, Amalfi & Ravello

This was hands-down my favourite part of the holiday.

The Amalfi Coast Tour is totally worth the money – it only would have been made more perfect if I’d been driving a vintage car instead of sitting on a coach. Then again, I’d hate to be navigating those tight bends!

It’s almost like being in a movie when you’re driving alongside the magical blue ocean.

We drove through Positano – a beautiful little village, built vertically beside the sea. I would have loved to have stopped here but after seeing quite how narrow the streets were and how many steps you have to climb to get around, I was fine just admiring the view from the bus!

We did, however, stop at Amalfi and I absolutely loved it. The most gorgeous town with plenty of little eateries, shops and more to explore. We scaled the steps of the cathedral to watch a bride make her way up with bridesmaids in tow. She looked like a film star.

Our final stop on the tour was Ravello, another jewel in Italy’s crown. Home to the well known music festival, Ravello inspired Wagner to compose wonderful operas and it’s easy to see why. Surrounded by such awesome views, who couldn’t feel inspired by such a place?
